ChoraLine for Singers
ChoraLine recordings are designed to help people who sing in choirs to master
the notes of their individual part (for details of how they may benefit your
choral society, please see ChoraLine for Choirs or
ChoraLine for Musical Directors. Reasons for
using them are many and varied. People may be taking up singing for the first
time, or starting again after a long lay-off, and feel that they could do with
some help. It may be a new piece that they have not done before; it may be one
of those works which are a real challenge even to the expert! The available
rehearsal time before concert day may be less than they feel they need; their
sight reading may be a little rusty or even non-existent! They may be preparing
for a scratch concert where rehearsal time - if any - is severely limited. Many
ChoraLine customers are regular users who buy a recording of their own voice
part straight after the first rehearsal.
-
The current ChoraLine repertoire covers most of the popular choral works, and
is constantly being enlarged and updated. Subject to the "commercial
volume" proviso, suggestions for future recordings are always welcome.
-
The recordings are in stereo and available on both cassette and CD. The content
is the same in both formats, but the track listing facility on CD makes for
easier navigation of the musical score (individual tracks correspond to
specific bar numbers, figures or letters). There are verbal signposts for all
chorus entries, and the balance control may be used to accentuate or diminish
the chosen voice part.
-
The recording is specifically designed as a learning tool, not a performance.
To separate the parts clearly, each voice is represented by a different musical
instrument. This aids clarity and also enables the recordings to be used with
any edition of the score - especially relevant where there is a choice of
language or pronunciation (cf. Latin). The dynamics and tempi are fairly
neutral, so as not to conflict with the conductor's aims.
-
The chosen voice part appears on the right-hand channel at a higher volume and
in a closer perspective than the other parts, which are on the left-hand
channel. The accompaniment is generally played on an organ and is heard on both
channels. Where soloists sing with the choir or provide a cue for the chorus,
their part is also played on the organ, but on a different stop.
-
Prices depend on the length of the work, and vary from £7.00 to £10.00 for CDs
and £5.00 to £8.50 for cassettes (UK post paid). We despatch outside the UK
